The Office Deployment Tool (ODT) is a program created by Microsoft to easily install the Enterprise version of Office on multiple PCs. Because the needs of businesses and organizations differ greatly from those of standard users, ODT provides more control over an Office installation. You can define which products and languages are installed, how those products should be updated, and whether or not to display the installation experience to your users. It gives full control over what the end users will receive.
We have prepared two methods for using ODT to install Microsoft Office LTSC:
If you want to use the official Microsoft method of Office deployment, see below.
If you want to use our beginner friendly method of Office deployment, click here.
I. OFFICIAL MICROSOFT OFFICE DEPLOYMENT TOOL / ODT GUIDE.
1. Make sure to uninstall any existing Office apps from your PC using the official Office removal tool here: https://aka.ms/diag_officeuninstall
2. Create a folder that you can easily find, preferably in the root directory of your drive, to serve as the location for extracting the Office Deployment Tool files. Name this folder “ODT” without the quotes. For example, create C:\ODT, where C:\ is the root directory and ODT is the folder name.
3. Download the Office Deployment Tool from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49117
4. Extract the files to the ODT folder you created in step 2.
5. We have already prepared the exact configuration for Office 2024, 2021 and 2019 Professional Plus to suit most companies. Simply download the attached file “office2024.xml”, “office2021.xml” or “office2019.xml” from the email we sent. Alternatively, if your IT department wishes to configure the deployment to cater to the specific needs of your organization, feel free to do so. Please refer to the official configuration guide here:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/office/ltsc/2024/deploy#create-the-configurationxml-file
6. Copy the downloaded configuration file from your email to the ODT folder.
7. Run Command Prompt as administrator. Navigate to the ODT folder directory by entering the command “cd c:\odt” without the quotes.
8. Enter the command “setup /download office2024.xml” for Office 2024, “setup /download office2021.xml” for Office 2021 or “setup /download office2019.xml” for Office 2019, respectively, without the quotes. Once the download is complete, you can copy the entire contents of the ODT folder we just created onto an external drive for easier transfer and installation on other PCs.
9. In the same command prompt screen, enter the command “setup /configure office2024.xml” for Office 2024, “setup /configure office2021.xml” for Office 2021 or “setup /configure office2019.xml” for Office 2019, respectively, without the quotes.
10. The Office setup and deployment should begin. Once finished, open Word or any other Office app.
11. Activate Office by opening the Account screen in FILE > ACCOUNT and clicking CHANGE PRODUCT KEY. Enter the product key. The same deployment procedure should be performed on all PCs requiring installation of Office Professional Plus Enterprise LTSC. If an activation wizard pop-up appears when you open any Office app, simply select “I want to activate the software over the internet (recommended)” and click Next to confirm activation.
